This place is the best of the best. Definitely we'll kept aquarium fish. Prices are fair. There is no parking lot but you can park in the alley behind the building. Very nice selection and the fish are very healthy.
Great experience, really clean store and the staff are very friendly. Bob's Tropical Fish is a great store. It has everything you need for your tank, or if you are looking to set up a new one. They have lots of fish and tank decorations in their store as well as very knowledgeable staff. You can tell they take pride in what they do and they are always happy to give pointers on any fish or products that fit your budget. I also love the plants they have in-store.
My kids and I recently visited Bob's Tropical Fish (also known as Oh My Betta) in search of our new betta. We visited a few local stores to move away from the large retailers, (we don't shop at large retailers anymore for pets, after some hard-learned lessons...) we couldn't find a place that aligned with our values and what we were looking for. Although Bob's Tropical Fish is not a local store for us, we decided to give it a try and find a healthy fish. When we walked into the store, we were so happy about store's well setup and the optimal condition of the animals. It was evident that the shop owner has a genuine dedication to the well-being of the fish.
When we asked questions, they provided us with insights into maintenance expectations and the specific conditions required for different fish species. This helped us to make an informed decision about whether we were equipped to properly care for an animal, or if we had the right set up before taking the fish home.
I also greatly appreciate that they are transparent about the sourcing of the fish and their dedication to providing animals that break free from the cycle of being raised under poor inbreeding conditions on large farms. If concerns about the sourcing and quality are important to you, I highly recommend visiting Bob's Tropical Fish. By doing so, you can save time and energy by avoiding larger retailers or shops that prioritize transactions over the well-being of the animals. Our new betta has happily joined our family, and we look forward to visiting the store again in the future.
One of THE BEST LFS in Los Angeles. The tanks and shop are clean, organized, and the fish are lively. This place knows the trends and they've kept up a very modern setup. They've got great selections on plants and livestock and at reasonable prices to boot. Very much worth the visit - I will come back every time as I change up or add new tanks and scapes.
They are very knowledgeable.
The tanks are really well taken care of. They have many examples from micro to huge tanks.
They seem to have a ton of plants as well.
I'm sure I'll be back to pick up some plants and maybe try a tiny aquarium too!
For a small store, they have a pretty large collection of products, plants, and fish. Tanks are clean and staff are around to help you. Was able to pick up some more plants for my small shrimp tank and am pretty satisfied. Only problems is that you probably have to park on pomona Blvd since parking is iffy. Also wish more products had price tags on them, because I wasn't sure for the plants.
The fish are generally not expensive and the people are friendly/helpful, but the fish health leaves something to be desired. Most of my shrimp/fish I've attempted buying from this store ended up sick with ick or dying before i even got them home (30 minute drive mind you), which is generally an issue I don't even get from buying in Petco.
I tried bringing this up with a worker but he turned the conversation about how the fish were transported from overseas and that if they can survive the flight to their store, they can survive the ride home. I'm not sure if he was somehow blaming me?
I want to support local fish shops with people that clearly care for and know about fish, but it's difficult when most of what I buy is less healthy but more expensive than what I can get in a commercial pet shop like petco or petsmart.
Very good selection of freshwater and saltwater fish, plants, etc. Staff are very nice and knowledgeable. I'm glad I walked in here and left a loyal customer.
